All I can say is that several years ago my wife retired after 30 years as a local figure skating professional.  The numbers at the Watertown, Clayton, and Alexandria Bay figure skating clubs dropped dramatically.  This happened in a relatively short time with no hope for a rebound.  There were all sorts of factors for this drop in enrollment, the main one being cost, and second was the lack of interest......
